PROJECT MANAGEMENT

UK Engineering Services have the complete project management toolbox, to ensure our clients achieve complete projects on time, within budget and to the specified scope & quality.

Addressing the life cycle of a project requires discrete objectives to be met.

Define Project Objectives. Using sales forecasts, volume and product mix. UKES will develop a Masterplan with key client personnel. The Masterplan output develops equipment, utility and space requirements. It can provide the first indication of costs and timescale.

Project Execution Strategy. This may involve  the following types of decisions:

  • Extension to Existing Site, Brownfield or New Greenfield Location
  • Project Management Controls
  • Phasing of Investment
  • Type of Construction and Procurement Routes
  • Decision Making & Management Structure - Project Team Members

Master Schedule.  These are important as they stimulate the decision-making process and register progress towards the end result. UKES use Microsoft Project 2007 as our standard tool, which allows Critical Path Analysis, Tracking, Baseline amendments, Earned Value and additional detailed relationships to be recorded as the project grows.

Communication Plan. This operates at multiple levels, and meets the decision making needs of each team

  • Project Executive: Board level executive summaries, allowing strategic decision making.
  • Project Team : Toolbox Talks, routine action plans and updates with vendor teams and client project manager.
  • Client Site Team : Bulletins for daily & weekly activity - aids ownership. Plans where work interfaces with routine operations.

Vendor Control. The mechanisms for ensuring the individual components come together as planned and budgeted.

  • Functional Design Specifications to validate the operation and interfaces of equipment
  • Drawing and design approval register and issues logs
  • Pre-Delivery Inspections, including trial runs of equipment at vendors premises
  • Contract related performance standards and time schedules
  • Preliminary and Final performance acceptance trials

Site Execution. Our knowledgable and professional Site Engineers are based at the clients premises for the practical duration of the installation, commissioning, start-up and hand-over phases.  They work closely with the design engineers, project managers and vendors' teams to ensure the correct end result is achieved.  Design modifications are promptly addressed via the agreed procedures, with good communication through the appropriate teams.

  • Safety induction for vendor teams and validation of their risk assessments & method statements
  • Manage site activity to CDM2007 expectations or similar overseas
  • Scheduling and integration of vendor equipment and acitivty on site to optimise the expended time and cost
  • Monitor installation standards and conformance to agreed design details
  • Coordination of client team involvement on site, for training, orientation visits, commissioning etc.

Sign Off and Documentation. Finishing off the work to the agreed standards & ensuring the client's team have the necessary information to operate the new installation successfully.

  • Snag lists and action plans by vendor
  • Vendor and OEM manuals, As Built drawings, spare parts and training for engineers & operators signed off as acceptable
  • Final Project Summary - bespoke overview document linking all project & OEM details to the project structure, for easy reference, running on CD/DVD or downloaded to site computer network.
