CDM(2007) HEALTH & SAFETY

The safety and well-being of both vendors and clients teams is given the highest priority by UK Engineering Services throughout the life of the project. Any design should be inherently safe, with control measures built in to protect the operators and building from equipment failure or abuse.

  • Process and Instrumentation Diagrams are used to assess monitoring and feedback systems for the installation
  • HAZOP analysis of process design, on a "point of failure" and risk assessment of consequences
  • Ensuring OEM vendors provide full and detailed planned preventative maintenance schedules and parts lists
  • Ensure conformance to relevant legislation and expectations of clients own build standards
  • HACCP studies on proposed installations to identify product risks and critical check points for samples etc.
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, installation assessments
  • EN902 and BS EN60204 assessments for build standards of electrical equipment

Since April 2007, all "construction" projects within the UK have to conform to the Construction(Design & Management) Regulations 2007. Whereby the client is responsible for appointing competent teams to execute their project, and  ensure health and safety is integrated into the management of the works.  UKES can offer appropriate levels of competency as

  • CDM Co-ordinator  (if required - see diagram)
  • Principal Contractor
  • Lead Designer

Members of the UKES team attending site have CITB ConstructionSkills - Health & Safety Test accrediation

In any of the roles, UK Engineering Services will aid the communication and integration of all the work elements to avoid unecessary risk and safety issues.  To aid the management of the works on site we have the following  tried and trusted management tools:

  • Architects and Engineers "H&S in design" competency assessments
  • Contractor H&S competency assessments
  • Project Site risks assessment and Pre-construction Site Health & Safety Plan
  • Arrange contractor welfare facilities & appropriate traffic management on site
  • Approvals processes for vendors site specific risk assessments & method statements
  • Permit to Work and controlled acccess systems for project installation areas
  • Work package sign-off including "CE" Certifications and "PED" Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/EC) Tests
